Rod Goebel (1946-1993) was a post-impressionist painter of the American southwest landscape. Born in Austin, Texas he was educated at the University of New Mexico and Colorado Institute of Art before settling in Taos, New Mexico. He was regarded as a master colorist and was known for  painting a variety of subject matter including  pure landscapes, seascapes. Figuratives and vibrant florals.  A founding member of the "Taos Six" Society of Arts he was also an Academician of the National Academy of Western Art. During his long and stellar career,  he produced a large ouvre of works, had many successful solo exhibitions and was featured in various art publications.

He lived and worked in an adobe hacienda that he created for himself in an area north of Taos, New Mexico. This hacienda was renowned for its gardens, and it supplied one of the major themes of his art.

In his last years, Goebel was also known as a master teacher, holding many classes and workshops in his home and throughout the country to pass on his knowledge of painting. Many contemporaries as well as younger artists still reflect about the influence Rod had on their painting and the push he gave them to try new techniques and expand their creativity.

His work was exhibited at The Museum of the Southwest, Midland, Texas; Museum of Fine Arts, New Mexico; The National Cowboy Hall of Fame and the Western Heritage Center, Oklahoma; the Museum of New Mexico, Albuquerque; Philbrook Museum, Tulsa, Oklahoma; the Museum of Northern Arizona, Flagstaff, and in corporate and private collections throughout the country including Wells Fargo Bank, New York and The Southland Corporation, Dallas.
