Krystii Melaine - Brolgallivanting - Australian Brolga

Australian Brolgas are very similar to America’s Sandhill Cranes, differing in appearance only by their head markings like cozy red ear-warmers. They inhabit similar wetlands and grasslands, perform graceful dances with their partners, and have haunting calls that carry over long distances. I delight in arranging long necked birds in pleasing compositions, using the curves of neck and body to create flow and movement. In this painting, sweeping curves in the background accentuate these fluid forms and give a sense of them gallivanting across the field.
