Bruce Lawes - Starry Eyed
Wolves figure prominently in the mythology of nearly every Native American tribe. In most Native cultures, Wolf is considered a medicine being associated with courage, strength, loyalty, and success. The wolf in my painting 'Starry Eyed' is also seen to have a spiritual connotation. The Indian culture looked to the sky for guidance in practical endeavours but also spiritual identity. They look to the sky as a map, clock and calendar. The movement of celestial objects were observed and followed using the stars as a compass, for orientation and direction. With my painting, 'Starry Eyed' I was trying to convey courage, strength and spiritual guidance using the symbolism and mythology of the wolf.
